Artist Quote:

"This double album project that I’ve been working on - the Sidereal Days (Day 1) & (Day 2) collection of 21 songs that I wrote over the past several decades and recorded from July of 2022 through August of 2024 for release in 2025 and 2026-has been quite a journey, and I’ve enjoyed every step of the way. I am most excited to have arrived at this present time, when I can now start sharing the final four singles from the (Day 2) album – about 1 single each month up to the September 25, 2026 release of the full (Day 2) album. The compositions, arrangements and recordings of these final four, represent some of the most intricate, complex and satisfying moments on the (Day 1) & (Day 2) albums. They truly are full and complete realizations of the concepts from which these songs were initially spawned, the directions they took during their development, and the panoramas in which they have been finally set for you all to experience.

The first one is, “I Think It’s Gonna Rain.” It’s a haunting, cinematic composition about a thunderstorm, a steam locomotive, a Sandhill Crane, an existential moment, and change. I started writing it during an intense Florida thunderstorm several years ago. I was on the top floor of a 10-story building that was situated on a seawall right on the Gulf of Mexico, and I was watching lightning, late into the night, repeatedly strike an island that I could see in the distance out in the Gulf. As I watched it, I noticed that the storm was slowly moving toward me. Several hours later, at 3am, while I was sleeping, lightning struck the roof and physically shook the building I was in, with the loudest explosion and sustained rumbling I’d ever felt. These events were ominous and foreboding, and so is the mood of “I Think It’s Gonna Rain.” The song’s lyrical reference to a train-whistle pattern (two long, followed by two short blasts), came from a book I was reading at the time - written by a retired steam-train engineer. That pattern, likely specific to a particular old train line, was used to signal that a train was changing tracks. Later in the song, you can hear seagulls cawing, followed by the loud squawk of the huge Sandhill Crane that I had an encounter with the next morning after the storm. I had videoed the encounter when it happened and later added the sounds from the video to the recording of this song. The thunder heard at the end of the track is from a separate video I filmed during that storm, as the lightning repeatedly slapped and stabbed at the heart of the island out in the open sea. There’s a lot going on in this song and recording, and I’m really happy with how it comes to life again every time I hear it.

I can’t say enough about the artists and technicians who joined with me in the studio in Nashville to complete this recording. They all lent their exceptional talents to it and brought the vision I had for this song to its full fruition in ways that I had only dreamed of. You’ll be able to see them in action in the studio too, when we release the Official Video in the days ahead.

I think you’re going to like this one, and it’s a great opener for the final four singles we’ll be sharing from the (Day 2) album this year.

Thanks for listening and thank you for your support.

With love and gratitude,
Bill S."
